On Tuesday, August 25, 2009, Andrew Roper, Supervisor of Instruction for Physical Education, Health and Athletics for St. Mary's County Public Schools, sent the following email to high school principals.
"Earlier today
Brad Clements, Greg Nourse and I met with Dr. Martirano to discuss a
concern that exists over the number and condition of athletic fields
at the high school level. In response to this concern we have
been directed to explore the feasibility of installing an artificial
turf field at each of the three high schools. In order to do
this a study group is to be formed in the near future. We
shall be preparing an information item to be presented to the Board
of Education at their meeting on September 29, 2009 and would ask
that you attend that meeting to show support for this initiative.
We would also ask that if you know of any coaches or community
members who are advocates for artificial turf fields that you alert
them to the fact that a feasibility study is to be conducted and
encourage them also to attend the Board of Education meeting.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to
contact Brad Clements or me."
